80 χιλιάδες νεκροί έφθασαν οι άμαχοι στη Συρία. Ας τους σταματήσουμε προτρέπει η AVAAZ

Είναι το χειρότερο που φοβόμασταν. Οι εκθέσεις αποφαίνονται τώρα ότι ο Άσαντ έχει αρχίσει να χρησιμοποιεί χημικά όπλα κατά του συριακού λαού. Αυτή είναι η τελευταία σταγόνα - η αναποφασιστικότητα της διεθνούς κοινότητας πρέπει να τελειώσει. Ήρθε η ώρα για την ΕΕ, τον Αραβικό Σύνδεσμο και τις ΗΠΑ να απαιτήσουν την άμεση κατάπαυση του πυρός και επιβάλλουν ζώνη απαγόρευσης πτήσεων πάνω από τη Συρία. Με 80.000 νεκρούς κατά την καταμέτρηση, ήρθε η ώρα να σταματήσει η αιματοχυσία.

Η Συρία μετατρέπεται σε κάτι που τα εγγόνια μας θα μας ρωτήσουν γιατί 80.000 άμαχοι σκοτώθηκαν, βασανίστηκαν, γιατί εκατομμύρια διάλεξαν το δρόμο της φυγής. Και τώρα, το χειρότερο πράγμα που έχουμε, είναι ο φόβος ότι ο πρόεδρος Άσαντ έχει αρχίσει τη χρήση χημικών όπλων.

Αυτή είναι η τελευταία σταγόνα. Η διεθνής κοινότητα αμφιταλαντεύεται για πάρα πολύ καιρό - ήρθε η ώρα να απαιτήσουμε δράσεις, κάνοντας έκκληση για άμεση κατάπαυση του πυρός για να σταματήσει η αιματοχυσία. Και έως ότου όλες οι πλευρές βάλουν κάτω τα όπλα τους, ας απαιτήσουμε μια ζώνη απαγόρευσης πτήσεων για την αποτροπή του Άσαντ από την επιβολή του τρόμου των χημικών με τα οποία βρέχει τις πόλεις και να διασφαλιστεί ότι η ανθρωπιστική βοήθεια μπορεί να φθάσει σε όσους έχουν ανάγκη.

Οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και τα μέλη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης έχουν καταστήσει σαφές στον Άσαντ την αντίθεσή τους στη χρήση χημικών όπλων Αυτό ήταν μια «κόκκινη γραμμή». Με την αναποφασιστικότητα που τηρούν στέλνουν το χειρότερο είδος μηνύματος. Ας στείλουμε το δικό μας αυτούς.

There is no military solution for Syria's conflict. Only a negotiated solution can bring this horror to an end. The international community has come together to push for peace talks, but a ceasefire is the only way to get all parties to come to the table, stop the bloodshed and find a negotiated solution.

But until all parties agree, a no fly zone -- enforced by the Arab League, European Union and US -- is the only way to stop the bombs raining down on Syria’s destroyed cities, create a humanitarian corridor to deliver basic supplies to desperate civilians, and force Assad to the negotiating table to find a real solution. By calling for both a ceasefire and no-fly zone, we can challenge both sides to go to peace talks, while taking direct action to help prevent Assad from restoring his venal dictatorship using massive crimes against humanity. That's why 77% of our community has voted in a poll to take this position.

The lazy cynics and solution-less critics like to say Syria is too complicated to act. It's not simple, and tough choices are needed. The conflict is not black and white, it's black and grey. But we’ve stood by and waited for the world to act for too long. Now’s the time for the international community to do something to stop this madness.
